"The Hidden Kingdom" - Week 1 Bible Reading Plan

7-Day Devotional Week 1
The Treasure You Didn't Know You Needed
Matthew 13:44-46
Day 1 – The Treasure Is Already There
Matthew 13:44 "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure buried in a field..."
Reflection: The treasure in Jesus' story wasn't newly placed in the field. It was already there. The man simply discovered it.
Many of us spend years searching for fulfillment in achievement, relationships, possessions, or experiences. We keep thinking the next accomplishment, purchase, or opportunity will finally satisfy us. Yet the ache remains.
Jesus reminds us that what our hearts truly need has already been provided. The Kingdom of God is not something we create; it is something we discover. God is often working beneath the surface long before we recognize it. His presence, grace, and purpose may be closer than we realize.
Question Where have you been looking for fulfillment lately?
Prayer Lord, open my eyes to see what You have already placed before me. Help me recognize Your Kingdom and Your work in my life.
Day 2 – Hidden Doesn't Mean Absent
Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Reflection: One reason faith can be difficult is because God's work is often invisible. We want immediate results, obvious answers, and visible progress. But much of God's greatest work happens beneath the surface. Roots grow before fruit appears. Seeds develop before harvest arrives. Character forms before influence expands. Just because you cannot see God's activity does not mean He is inactive. The Kingdom often grows quietly before it becomes obvious.
Question Where do you need to trust God even though you cannot yet see what He is doing?
Prayer Father, help me trust Your unseen work. Give me faith when I cannot see immediate results.
Day 3 – Discovery Changes Perspective
Philippians 3:8 "I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord."
Reflection: The moment the man found the treasure, everything changed. The field was the same. The surroundings were the same. But his perspective was completely different. When we encounter Jesus, life itself begins to look different. We start measuring success differently. We evaluate opportunities differently. We view people differently. The circumstances may not change overnight, but our understanding of what truly matters does.
Question How has knowing Christ changed the way you view success, possessions, or relationships?
Prayer Jesus, continue reshaping my perspective. Help me see life through the lens of Your Kingdom.
Day 4 – What We Treasure Reveals Our Hearts
Matthew 6:21 "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Reflection: Everyone treasures something. Our calendars, spending habits, conversations, and priorities often reveal what matters most to us. Jesus is not condemning ambition, work, family, or goals. He is helping us examine whether those things have become ultimate things. The Kingdom was valuable enough that the man reordered his entire life around it. What we treasure most ultimately shapes who we become.
Question What receives most of your attention, energy, and affection right now?
Prayer Lord, reveal any misplaced priorities in my life. Help me treasure You above everything else.
Day 5 – Joy Changes Everything
Matthew 13:44 "Then in his joy he goes and sells everything he has..."
Reflection: One word stands out in Jesus' story: joy. The man wasn't reluctant. He wasn't pressured. He wasn't grieving. He was joyful. Why? Because he understood what he was gaining. Many people think following Jesus is primarily about what we give up. Jesus presents it differently. Following Him is about discovering something so valuable that everything else naturally takes a lower place. The Kingdom is not about losing freedom; it is about finding life.
Question Do you tend to focus more on what faith costs or on what faith gives?
Prayer Father, fill me with joy as I follow You. Help me see the richness of life in Your Kingdom.
Day 6 – First Things First
Matthew 6:33 "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness..."
Reflection: The Kingdom was not one priority among many for the man in the story. It became his highest priority. Jesus consistently calls His followers to put God's Kingdom first—not because nothing else matters, but because everything else functions best when God is first. When the Kingdom is first:Work finds its proper place. Family finds its proper place. Money finds its proper place. Dreams find their proper place. Everything else begins to align around what matters most.
Question What practical step could help you put God's Kingdom first this week?
Prayer Lord, help me seek Your Kingdom before anything else. Shape my decisions around Your purposes.
Day 7 – The Treasure Worth Building Your Life Around
Scripture: Matthew 13:44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
Reflection At the end of the story, the man owns the field because he wants the treasure. His actions reveal complete confidence that what he found is worth everything. Jesus is inviting us to the same conclusion. The Kingdom is not merely an addition to life. It is the foundation for life. Many people spend their lives pursuing temporary treasures that eventually fade. God's Kingdom offers something lasting, eternal, and secure. The greatest discovery a person can make is that what their heart has been searching for all along is found in Christ.
Question If someone observed your life closely, what would they conclude is your greatest treasure?
Prayer Jesus, thank You for the gift of Your Kingdom. Help me build my life around what lasts forever and trust that You are doing more than I can see.
