"The Greatest" - Bible Reading Plan

7 Day Devotional
Focal Passage: Matthew 28:16-20
Day 1 — Worshiping While You Wonder
Matthew 28:17 "When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted."
The disciples stood before the risen Jesus. They worshiped Him, yet some still struggled to fully understand what they were seeing. That should encourage us. Faith is not pretending to have all the answers. Faith is choosing to trust Jesus even when some questions remain unanswered. Many people assume doubt and faith cannot exist together. Matthew 28 shows otherwise. The disciples worshiped while they wrestled with hesitation and uncertainty. Jesus did not rebuke them. He welcomed them into His presence and entrusted them with His mission.
Reflection: What questions or uncertainties are you carrying today?
Prayer: Lord, help me worship You even when I do not understand everything. Teach me to trust You while I continue to learn and grow. Amen.
Day 2 — Faith Beyond Perfect Certainty
Matthew 14:31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
The word translated "doubted" in Matthew 28:17 is the same word used when Peter began sinking while walking on the water. Peter wasn't rejecting Jesus. He was wavering. The disciples in Galilee weren't denying the resurrection. They were overwhelmed by it. Sometimes we think spiritual maturity means never hesitating. In reality, maturity often means continuing forward despite hesitation. God is not looking for flawless faith. He is looking for faithful people who keep their eyes on Christ.
Reflection: Where do you feel yourself wavering right now?
Prayer: Jesus, strengthen my faith where it is weak and steady my heart when I hesitate. Amen.
Day 3 — Jesus Has All Authority
Matthew 28:18 "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me."
Before Jesus gives a command, He makes a declaration. All authority belongs to Him. Every kingdom. Every government. Every circumstance. Every challenge. Nothing exists outside His rule. The disciples were about to face persecution, hardship, and uncertainty. Jesus wanted them to remember that the mission rested on His authority, not their ability. The same is true for us. You may not control your circumstances, but Jesus does.
Reflection: What situation in your life needs to be placed under Christ's authority today?
Prayer: Lord, remind me that You are greater than every challenge I face. Help me trust Your authority over my life. Amen.
Day 4 — God Can Make Things Happen
Jeremiah 32:17 “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”
When Jesus says all authority belongs to Him, He is reminding us that He can accomplish His purposes in every circumstance. Sometimes doors close. Plans change. Obstacles appear. Yet God's purposes are never limited by our circumstances. The disciples could not imagine how eleven ordinary men would carry the gospel to the world. But Jesus already knew what He would do through them. The same Jesus who worked through them is still working today.
Reflection: Where do you need to trust God's ability instead of your own?
Prayer: Father, help me believe that You are working even when I cannot see the outcome. Amen.
Day 5 — Sent Under His Authority
Matthew 28:19 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations..."
The word "therefore" matters. Because Jesus has all authority, we can go with confidence. The mission is not based on our strength, personality, resources, or experience. It is based on who Jesus is. Every believer has been sent. For some, the mission field is across the world. For others, it is across the street. Wherever God has placed you, He has given you opportunities to help others follow Him.
Reflection: Who has God placed in your life that needs encouragement, prayer, or a gospel conversation?
Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to the people around me and help me faithfully represent You. Amen.
Day 6 — The Presence Behind the Promise
Matthew 28:20 "And surely I am with you always..."
Jesus ends the Great Commission with a promise. He does not say, "Good luck." He does not say, "Figure it out." He says, "I am with you." His presence is the strength behind our obedience. The disciples would face prisons, persecution, rejection, and suffering. Yet Jesus promised that none of those experiences would separate them from His presence. The same promise belongs to us. You never walk alone.
Reflection: How would your outlook change if you truly believed Jesus is with you today?
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for never abandoning me. Help me live with confidence in Your presence. Amen.
Day 7 — An Addendum of Assurance
Matthew 28:20 "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
An addendum adds important information. Jesus' final words provide an addendum of assurance. The Great Commission is a big assignment. Go. Make disciples. Teach. Baptize. But the final promise is even greater. Wherever obedience takes you, Jesus is already there. He is present in moments of courage. He is present in moments of uncertainty. He is present in success and failure. He is present in every season until the end of the age. The Christian life is not simply about doing things for Jesus. It is about living every day with Jesus.
Reflection: Where do you need to be reminded of Christ's presence today?
Prayer: Lord, thank You that Your presence is constant and Your promises are sure. Help me walk confidently, worship faithfully, and obey courageously because You are always with me. Amen.
Closing Thought: The disciples worshiped even while they hesitated. Jesus commissioned them because of His authority, not their perfection. And He sent them with the assurance of His presence. The same Jesus who stood with them on that mountain stands with you today.
