Small Group Discussion Guide

Trust the One Who Sees the Destination

Main Idea:
Trust God to guide each step of your life—whether His answer is yes, no, or unknown—because He alone sees the destination.

Icebreaker Question:

Share a time when you followed directions (GPS, map, or advice) that didn’t go as expected. How did it affect your trust?

Just like we sometimes lose trust in human guidance, we can struggle to trust God when life doesn’t go as planned. Tonight, we’ll explore how to trust Him in every situation.

Trusting Without the Full Map

Discussion Questions:

  • Why do we naturally want God to show us the whole plan?

  • What makes trusting step-by-step difficult?

  • How has God shown faithfulness to you in the past?

Key Insight:

God reveals steps, not the entire journey, so we learn to depend on Him daily.

When God Says “Yes” - Read: 1 Samuel 23:2–4

Discussion Questions:

  • How do you feel when God’s answer is clearly “yes”?

  • Why is it important to seek God before acting, even when things seem obvious?

  • Have you ever experienced a “yes” that confirmed God’s direction?

Teaching Point:

A “yes” builds confidence in God and encourages faithfulness.

When God Says “No” - Read: 2 Samuel 7:4–6, 12–13

Discussion Questions:

  • Why can a “no” from God feel so difficult?

  • Have you ever had a good plan that God didn’t allow? What happened?

  • How can God’s “no” actually be protection or redirection?

Teaching Point:

God’s “no” is not rejection—it reflects His greater plan and perfect timing.

When God Feels Silent (The Unknown) - Read: Psalm 22:1–2

Discussion Questions:

  • Why is uncertainty often harder than a “yes” or “no”?

  • How do you personally respond when God seems silent?

  • What does it look like to trust God in the unknown?

Teaching Point:

Trusting in uncertainty means believing in God’s character, not just His answers.

Trusting the Shepherd - Read: Psalm 23:1–6

Discussion Questions:

  • What stands out to you about how God leads and cares for us?

  • How does God’s past faithfulness strengthen your current trust?

  • Which phrase from Psalm 23 speaks most to your current season?

Key Insight:

God is always leading—whether in peace or difficulty—and His presence is constant.

Reflection Questions (from document):

  • Am I trusting God only when His answer is “yes,” or also when it is “no” or “not yet”?
