SMALL GROUP GUIDE

HE IS — The Way, The Truth, and The Life

Text: John 14:6

Jesus doesn’t give directions—He gives Himself.

INTRO — WHEN EXPECTATIONS MISS REALITY

Palm Sunday is one of the most confusing moments in the Gospels. The crowd is loud. Hope is high. Expectation is strong. But they’re celebrating a Jesus they don’t fully understand. They want a political king. Jesus comes as a suffering Savior.

Discussion:

  • Have you ever expected God to do one thing… and He did something completely different?

  • How did that affect your trust in Him?

READ TOGETHER

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know John 14:1–7

1. THE WAY — WHEN YOU FEEL LOST “I am the way…”

Key Idea Jesus is not pointing to a path—He is the path.

We often want:

  • A plan

  • A map

  • Clear directions

But Jesus offers something different: His presence Life doesn’t always “recalculate” neatly.

Sometimes it feels like:

  • “I’ve gone too far”

  • “I’ve messed this up”

  • “There’s no way back”

Jesus doesn’t say, “Find your way back.” He says, “Stay with Me.”

Discussion:

  • Where in your life do you currently feel lost or uncertain?

  • Why do we tend to prefer a plan over a person?

  • What would it practically look like for you to “stay close to Jesus” this week?

Takeaway: You don’t need a better plan—you need a closer walk.

2. THE TRUTH — WHEN YOU FEEL CONFUSED “I am the truth…”

Key Idea Truth is not something we customize—it’s Someone we trust.

We live in a world of:

  • Opinions

  • Noise

  • Constant information

And it creates confusion more than clarity.

Foggy Windshield You can still move forward… But you’re guessing. That’s how many people live spiritually.

Not rebellious—just unclear.

Discussion:

  • What are some voices competing for your attention right now?

  • How can “partial truth” be just as dangerous as falsehood?

  • What does it mean to interpret culture through Jesus instead of interpreting Jesus through culture?

Takeaway:  When truth shows up, lies lose power.

3. THE LIFE — WHEN YOU FEEL EMPTY “I am the life…”

Key Idea Jesus doesn’t upgrade your life—He becomes your life.We try to fill the emptiness with:

  • Achievement

  • Experiences

  • Relationships

…but still feel something missing. You can be full… …and still not satisfied. That’s the human soul.

Discussion:

  • Where do people commonly look for life apart from God?

  • Have you ever had something you thought would satisfy you… but didn’t?

  • What’s the difference between “adding Jesus to your life” and “making Jesus your life”?

Takeaway: Life isn’t found in having more—it’s found in Him.

PALM SUNDAY CONNECTION — MISPLACED EXPECTATIONS

The crowd shouted “Hosanna!” …but misunderstood what they needed saving from.

They wanted:

  • Immediate change

  • External rescue

Jesus came for:

  • Internal transformation

  • Eternal rescue

Discussion:

  • Where are you tempted to want Jesus on your terms instead of trusting Him on His?

  • Why is it easier to celebrate Jesus when He aligns with our expectations?

CLOSING — TRUSTING THE RIGHT NAME

The Bridge in the Dark Faith is not seeing everything clearly. It’s trusting the One who does.

Reflection

  • Which do you need most right now: Way, Truth, or Life?

  • What is one step you can take this week to trust Jesus more deeply in that area?

CHALLENGE

  • Don’t just believe in Jesus this week.

  • Walk with Him as your Way.

  • Listen to Him as your Truth.

  • Depend on Him as your Life.
