"I've Been Thinking" - Week 1 Reading Plan

7-Day Devotional: Whatever Is True

Philippians 4:8 – “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Day 1 – The Power of “Whatever”

  • Scripture: Philippians 4:8
  • Devotional Thought: Paul repeats “whatever” six times, reminding us we always have a choice of what to think about. Our perspective is shaped not by what happens to us, but by what we choose to dwell on.
  • Reflection Question: What “whatevers” fill your thoughts most often—truth or lies, fear or faith?
  • Challenge: Write down your most common thought patterns today. Are they true?

Day 2 – Recognize the Lies

  • Scripture: 2 Timothy 4:3–4
  • Devotional Thought: Lies often sound appealing because they tell us what we want to hear. Recognizing them requires courage and humility. The first step in rewiring our thinking is asking: Is this true?
  • Reflection Question: What lies are easiest for you to believe about yourself, others, or God?
  • Challenge: Identify one lie you’ve been tempted to believe and confront it with Scripture.

Day 3 – God’s Word Is Truth

  • Scripture: John 17:17 – “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”
  • Devotional Thought: Truth isn’t just an idea; it’s anchored in Scripture. The Bible reveals what is genuine, reliable, and trustworthy. When culture, emotions, or voices around us shift, Scripture remains the unshakable source of truth.
  • Reflection Question: How much space does Scripture have in your daily thought life?
  • Challenge: Memorize Philippians 4:8 this week.

Day 4 – Replace Lies with Truth

  • Scripture: Ephesians 4:22–24
  • Devotional Thought: It’s not enough to reject lies—we must replace them with truth. God calls us to put off the old self and put on the new. This is intentional. Transformation happens when we actively choose truth over falsehood.
  • Reflection Question: Where do you need to replace negative or false thinking with God’s truth?
  • Challenge: Write down a lie you’ve believed and then write a verse that counters it.

Day 5 – Reframing Circumstances

  • Scripture: Philippians 1:12–14
  • Devotional Thought: Paul could have seen his chains as defeat. Instead, he reframed them as an opportunity for the gospel. Truth changes how we interpret circumstances. With God, hardship becomes holy ground.
  • Reflection Question: How might God be using a difficult circumstance in your life for His glory?
  • Challenge: Journal about one struggle in your life and write a “reframe”—how God may use it for good.

Day 6 – Truth Brings Freedom

  • Scripture: John 8:31–32 – “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
  • Devotional Thought: Lies enslave, but truth liberates. Believing what God says about who He is and who you are frees you from fear, shame, and doubt. Truth is not restrictive—it’s freeing.
  • Reflection Question: Where have you experienced freedom because you embraced God’s truth?
  • Challenge: Share one truth about God with a friend or family member today.

Day 7 – Rewiring My Brain

  • Scripture: Romans 12:2
  • Devotional Thought: Transformation is a process of rewiring our minds. Each day, we choose whether to conform to the world’s patterns or be renewed by God’s truth. Over time, this renewal shapes our identity, our outlook, and our peace.
  • Reflection Question: What thought patterns do you want the Holy Spirit to rewire?
  • Challenge: Pray daily this week: “Lord, renew my mind with Your truth.”
