"HE IS" - Week 2 Bible Reading Plan

 7-Day Devotional WEEK 2

HE IS - I AM

Big Idea: We don’t just believe ideas about Jesus—we decide whether we trust who He is. Jesus isn’t shaped by what’s happening around you—what’s happening around you is shaped by Him.

DAY 1 — WHEN GOD GIVES A NAME INSTEAD OF ANSWERS

Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.[a] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:13–14

Moses wanted clarity. God gave him identity. That feels frustrating until you realize something: answers change, but identity doesn’t. God doesn’t start with what He’ll do. He starts with who He is. “I AM.” Not a plan.

Not a timeline.

A name. Because before Moses needed confidence about the future, he needed confidence about who was sending him.

Reflection: Where are you demanding explanations when God may be inviting you to trust His character instead?

Prayer: God, I admit I want answers. Help me trust You even when I don’t get them.

DAY 2 — GOD IS NOT RUNNING LOW

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1–2

Everything in our lives depends on something else. Money depends on income. Energy depends on rest.

Stability depends on circumstances. God doesn’t depend on anything. “I AM” means He doesn’t borrow strength, wait for conditions, or need backup. When your resources shrink, His don’t.

Reflection: What has been your “power source” lately—and what happens when it fails?

Prayer: God, remind me that You are the source, not just a supplement.

DAY 3 — GOD IS PRESENT IN THE MESS

And teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20

God doesn’t say, “I was with you.” He doesn’t say, “I’ll be with you later.” He says, “I AM.” That means He meets you where you actually are—not where you hoped you’d be by now. He’s not waiting on the cleanup.

Reflection: Where have you assumed God would show up later instead of now?

Prayer: God, help me notice You here—not just hope for You there.

DAY 4 — JESUS CLAIMS THE NAME

“Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” John 8:58

Jesus doesn’t just talk about God. He speaks as God. “Before Abraham was born, I AM.” That statement wasn’t inspirational—it was confrontational. Jesus claims the same name spoken from the burning bush. Which means the presence Moses trusted… is the same presence walking with you.

Reflection: Do you relate to Jesus as a historical figure—or a present reality?

Prayer: Jesus, help me trust You as present, not just remembered.

DAY 5 — BEFORE EVERYTHING ELSE

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8

Before fear—He is. Before uncertainty—He is. Before the diagnosis—He is. Life keeps changing names for God based on feelings. God keeps introducing Himself the same way. “I AM.”

Reflection: What situation have you been allowing to define God for you?

Prayer: God, reintroduce Yourself to me beyond my circumstances.

DAY 6 — GOD DEFINES THE SITUATION, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. Isaiah 40:28

Your circumstances don’t get naming rights. Feelings are real—but they aren’t authoritative. God doesn’t become distant because life gets loud. He doesn’t become weak because you feel tired. He stays who He is.

Reflection: Where have emotions been given more authority than truth?

Prayer: God, anchor me in who You are, not how things feel.

DAY 7 — TRUST BEFORE CLARITY

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5–6

We often want clarity first, then trust. God usually invites trust first, then clarity—sometimes later than we’d like.

Before asking what’s next, remember who He is. He is present. He is enough. He is steady. He is already here.

Reflection: What would change if you trusted God’s character before you saw the outcome?

Prayer: God, I don’t know what’s next—but I know who You are. That’s enough for today.

CLOSING THOUGHT: Before you ask God what He’s going to do, remember who He already is.He doesn’t need to become something new for your situation. He already is exactly what you need.
