"Christmas is Closer than You Think" - Week 6 Bible Reading Plan

7-Day Devotional

You might feel far from God—but He’s already closer than you think.

Matthew 2:1–12

Day 1 — When It Feels Like the Moment Passed

“After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem…” (Matthew 2:1)

Reflection: There’s a quiet emotional shift that happens after Christmas. The music fades. The decorations come down. Life speeds back up. Spiritually, it can feel like God showed up for a season and then moved on. But Epiphany tells a different story. The Magi didn’t arrive at the manger scene. They arrived after the celebrations were over. No angels. No shepherds. No fanfare. Just seekers who showed up late and still found Jesus. If you feel like you missed your moment with God, this story reminds you: God doesn’t run on the holiday calendar.

Today’s Truth: Feeling distant doesn’t mean God is absent.

Day 2 — God Meets People Who Are Still Figuring Things Out

“We saw His star when it rose and have come to worship Him.” (Matthew 2:2)

Reflection: The Magi weren’t religious insiders. They didn’t know the Scriptures. They didn’t have certainty, only curiosity. They noticed something unusual and chose to follow it. And God met them in their questions. Faith doesn’t start with having all the answers. It starts with paying attention and taking a step. If you’re still sorting out what you believe… If you still have doubts… If you’re unsure but searching… You’re not behind.

Today’s Truth: God honors honest seekers, not perfect believers.

Day 3 — God Is Usually Found in Unimpressive Places

“The star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.” (Matthew 2:9)

Reflection: The star didn’t stop at a palace. It didn’t hover over power or prestige. It stopped over a house. God chose simplicity over spectacle. We often expect God to show up in dramatic moments but He usually arrives quietly: In conversations, not conferences In kitchens, not cathedrals in routine days, not highlight reels If you’re waiting for something big, you might be missing something real.

Today’s Truth: God is often closer than we realize because He works quietly.

Day 4 — Joy Comes from Realizing You’re Not Too Late

Scripture: “When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.” (Matthew 2:10)

Reflection: That joy wasn’t loud it was relieving. They weren’t too late. They hadn’t missed Him. The journey still mattered. Joy often comes not from everything going right but from realizing God hasn’t given up on us. Maybe your joy has been replaced by regret. Or disappointment. Or the sense that you should be further along by now.
Epiphany joy says: God is still revealing Himself to you.

Today’s Truth: Joy returns when we realize God hasn’t moved on.

Day 5 — Seeing Jesus Changes What You Do with Your Life

“On coming to the house, they saw the child with His mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him.” (Matthew 2:11)

Reflection: The Magi didn’t analyze Jesus. They didn’t debate theology. They worshiped. Then they opened their hands. Gold. Frankincense. Myrrh. Real faith always moves from belief to response. Encountering Jesus reshapes what we value, what we offer, and what we hold loosely.

Today’s Truth: Worship isn’t words it’s surrender.

Day 6 — An Encounter with Jesus Sends You a Different Way

“And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.” (Matthew 2:12)

Reflection: Same Magi. Different direction. Meeting Jesus didn’t just inform them it redirected them.
Epiphany exposes more than who Jesus is. It reveals who we are becoming. Following Christ doesn’t mean your life becomes easier but it does become more intentional.

Today’s Truth: You can’t meet Jesus and stay on autopilot.

Day 7 — Don’t Overlook the Nearness of God

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” (John 1:14)

Reflection: The Magi traveled far only to discover God had already arrived. That’s the heart of Epiphany.
God isn’t waiting for next December. He isn’t hiding behind your doubts. He isn’t distant from your ordinary days.
He’s closer than you think. Right here. Right now.

A Simple Epiphany Prayer: “God, open my eyes to notice where You already are.”

Final Truth: Christmas didn’t disappear it was revealed.
