The Next Faithful Step
Psalm 119:105"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."

What is the next faithful step God is asking me to take?
Opener: Share about a time you tried to assemble something without reading the instructions—or followed GPS into a place you never intended to go.

Life often feels like that. We want a complete roadmap, but God usually gives us something much smaller—and much better.

Digging Into the Message
1. God Gives a Lamp, Not a Spotlight
One of the most comforting truths in this verse is its honesty. God doesn't promise to show us every detail of the future. Instead, He promises enough light for the next step. That can feel frustrating because we'd rather know how everything works out. But perhaps God's greatest gift isn't certainty. Perhaps it's His presence.

2. God Wants Relationship More Than Information
Imagine if God handed you a complete blueprint of your life. Every success. Every failure. Every heartbreak. Every blessing. Would you really want to know it all? Probably not. Instead, He invites us to walk with Him one step at a time. A lamp keeps us close to the One carrying the light. Faith has never been about predicting tomorrow. Faith has always been about trusting the Shepherd.

3. Lamps Slow Us Down
A lamp encourages careful steps. Not hurried ones. God often grows us slowly. Character. Marriage. Friendships. Faith. His Kingdom. The world celebrates speed. God often works through consistency.

- Why do we struggle with slow growth?
- Where have you seen God develop something valuable over time?
- What would change if you trusted God's pace instead of your own?

4. Looking Back Reveals God's Faithfulness
Most of us can look backward and see God's fingerprints far more clearly than we could see them in the moment. The closed door. The unexpected opportunity. The difficult season. The relationship that changed everything. The lamp seemed small then. The journey looks beautiful now.

5. What Is Your Next Faithful Step?
We often ask, "God, what's Your plan for my life?" Maybe the better question is, "What is my next faithful step?" It may not be dramatic. It may simply be:
- Forgiving someone.
- Making an important phone call.
- Opening your Bible.
- Beginning to pray again.
- Serving quietly.
- Trusting after disappointment.
- Starting over.
Most spiritual growth happens through ordinary acts of daily obedience.

- What's keeping you from taking that step?
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22

Spend a few quiet moments reflecting. Complete this sentence: "My next faithful step is..."
Then ask:
- What would it look like to take that step this week?
- Who in this group can encourage or pray for you?
- How can we celebrate obedience rather than just outcomes?
Weekly Challenge
Each morning this week, begin your day by praying:
"Lord, I don't need to see the whole path. Show me today's faithful step, and give me the courage to take it."
At the end of each day, ask yourself:
- Where did I see God's guidance today?
- Did I take the step He placed before me?
- What did I learn about trusting Him?

Closing Thought The Christian life is rarely about giant leaps. More often, it's built through thousands of ordinary decisions to trust and obey Jesus one day at a time. God doesn't ask you to carry tomorrow. He doesn't expect you to know the entire journey. He simply invites you to trust the light He has already given. And here's the promise you can hold onto: The God who lights your path today is already waiting in every tomorrow you'll ever face.
